  Recently, the onboard spray carbon capture system independently developed by Nantong Ocean Ship Equipment/COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) Co., Ltd has successfully received the principle recognition certificate (AIP) issued by China Classification Society (CCS), which is another major technological breakthrough after the onboard high-gravity carbon capture system.

  The onboard spray carbon capture system is based on spray column technology, which uses nozzles to transform the absorbent into a mist or spout jet to cover a large area. The gas-liquid phase fully contacts in this area to achieve gas-liquid mass transfer. Compared with high-gravity carbon capture technology, spray carbon capture technology has high maturity, large energy-saving renovation space and simple column structure. It is easy to maintain and applicable to various ship types, especially to vessels with large amount of exhaust gas emission. It uses comprehensive energy-saving technologies such as mid-section cooling, MVR, and waste heat utilization to improve carbon dioxide absorption efficiency and energy utilization, reducing system energy consumption and maintenance costs effectively.

  Spray tower technology could achieve technological integration with high-gravity with its own technological advantages. An efficient and compact onboard carbon capture system could be developed with customized technical routes, providing comprehensive solutions to carbon capture technology problems.

The research and development of onboard spray carbon capture technology has further improved the applicability of onboard carbon capture systems, providing a strong technical support for establishing a sound system of onboard carbon capture equipment and enhancing market competitiveness.
