Recently, the onboard super-gravity carbon capture system independently developed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) Co., Ltd has received DNV AIP recognition. This is the fourth conceptual recognition certificate received by the system after China Classification Society (CCS), Italian Classification Society (RINA), and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), indicating that the technological innovation of the system has been widely recognized in shipping industry.
During the certification process, the expert team of DNV conducted a comprehensive assessment on the safety of crew and ship equipment in accordance with the "Guidelines for Carbon Capture Systems on Ships" (DNV-CG-0667) and thoroughly reviewed the feasibility and applicability of the onboard high-gravity carbon capture system on ships. DNV experts provided professional technical guidance for each module of the system and ultimately confirmed that the system fully complies with DNV regulation. In terms of system design, DNV experts provided suggestions on parameter monitoring, equipment maintenance and emergency response for the system under ship operating conditions based on existing processes and valuable technical support for the system compatibility design, which lays a solid theoretical foundation for its future onboard applications.
In the next optimization stage, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) Co., Ltd will further develop an upgrade plan for system process and control logic based on the difficulties of onboard application, combining with the performance characteristics and safety control logic of the target ship main engine, to enhance the automation level and practical applicability of the system, accelerate the application of onboard high-gravity carbon capture technology and assist in the green transformation and sustainable development of shipping industry.
